I have the honour to forward for your
favourable consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from
the Acting Secretary to the Sanitary Board,
dgiving cover to a
Resolution, unanimously adopted at a meeting of the Board held
on the 25th, ultimo, to the effect that the appointment of an Assistant Medical Officer of Health is urgently needed.
In paragraph 3 of his despatch No.352 of
the 7th. of December 1899, Sir H.A. Blake stated that he did not then feel justified in recommending for approval the new appoint ment of Assistant Medical Officer of Health, and I think it
right now to forward the enclosed copy of a minute on the
present recommendation of the Board by the Acting Colonial Secretary (who oor the occasion when the Report of the Select Committee of the Board was adopted by a majority, moved as Vice-President of the Board the Amendment referred to in the
letter of the Secretary of the Board dated the 29th.of Septem-
ber lass, and copy of which was enclosed in Sir H.A.Blake's despatch above referred to, in which he states as his opinion that the appointment should not be made at the present time, but implies that if the number of recently-added Sanitary
· Inspectors,
Gors, three of whom it has not yet been possible to
appoint as no suitable: Candidates are forthcoming, were reduced, then an Assistant Medical Officer of Health might with ad-
vantage be appointed.
